Drilling Rig Jobs
The global dependency on oil makes getting a job in the oil production business a wise choice. The demand for oil keeps growing. In the United States alone over 9 million barrels of oil is produced daily, and more then that is imported from other countries.
Drill rig jobs are the beginning process of the oil industry,. Once the geologists determines the area to drill. The rigs move to the location and start the process. Most drill rigging jobs are offshore and require people to be gone for weeks at a time. The pay is quite good, and the time off is also very generous. Its not uncommon to get 3 weeks off after working a 14 days straight. The starting pay is usually much greater then most other non professional labor positions.
There are several jobs and job descriptions on a oil rig. It takes a lot of labor because of the vast amount of equipment to run an oil rig. Many types of laborers are needed, such as drillers, mechanics, electricians, painters, and maintenance men. Some professional people are needed as well. Mechanical, and electrical engineers, to name a couple
Every position obviously has their own duties but they also have many benefits. Some of the benefits involve everyone, others are unique to their job description. Most labor positions require heavy lifting or hard labor. The pay is good, and overtime is very common. The professional positions require lot of hours but the working conditions are more relaxed. All positions require lots of travel. Its important that the candidate enjoys to travel, and is aware that they will be away from home for long periods of time.
Many oil rig jobs are passed on from father to son. However with the demand for oil the job market keeps growing.
