Even though the price of oil has dropped, there are still opportunities available for working in the oil industry. If you are willing to work overseas then there is the opportunity to earn twice the amount of money as you would if you worked domestic. While the oil companies want experienced workers they will hire the less experienced person if they are will to work in some of the less desirable location that are available. Sometimes there is some degree of danger to working in certain countries but the dangers are downplayed by the oil companies by having security and other company procedures in place.

Most major oil companies have a standard requirement that all employees be immunized against most of the major infections including of course hepatitis. Anti malaria medication is sometimes needed if the work to be done is in a tropical climate. Oil rigs that are located overseas usually require their employees to work on a rotating schedule of thirty days.

Having previous experience working as a rig zone worker is definitely an asset but may not be entirely necessary depending on your skills and your strengths. Having a skilled trade could be an asset as well as knowing a second language.

Some of the lower paid workers are usually hired from within the country where the drilling site is located. These lower paid workers usually do odd jobs and are called roustabouts. The amount of people who are looking for work on an offshore oil rig, is far below the demand so chances are good that with the right qualifications you will get a good paying job from which you can reap many financial rewards.

In order to work on an oil rig a person must be in good physical condition. A sense of adventure and a desire to potentially make a large amount of money helps of convince someone to work in the oil industry on a rig either on or off shore.

For someone who is not familiar with the oil production industry there may be many questions to be answered regarding a position as a rigzone worker. Some of the more obvious such as pay and safety are common. Others regarding the different kinds of work available, exactly how drilling works, what the working conditions are, and environmental issues can all be answered by preparing well before applying for a job.
