Bahrain Petroleum Company

This is a government owned Oil Company. It is the property of the republic of Bahrain which takes part in the exploration, prospecting drilling and refining of oil. Bahrain as a country is fully dependent on petroleum and its products. With petroleum and its related products being the main export commodity from Bahrain, the Bahrain government ha put a lot of efforts towards enhancing the viability of the sector. As a result, the government of Bahrain has invested in several oil wells with a total production capacity of up to 267,000 barrels of oil per day. It also has several high capacity storage reserves capable of holding up to 14 million barrels of oil besides investing in several oil refining plants.

The Bahrain petroleum company boasts of some of the largest refining facility in the Middle East. As a result it refines locally drilled crude oil as well as more crude oil imports from neighboring Saudi Arabia. The crude oil from Saudi Arabia is brought in to Bahrain from neighboring oil fields in Saudi Arabia through an underground pipe line that runs both on land and in the sea for about 54 km away in the Saudi oil fields. The company is quite busy trying to increase its oil production. This strategy has seen the government of Bahrain invest more in a bid to comply with the internationally set standards and to increase the production of low sulphur diesel.

What are the target markets?

Most of the oil produced in Bahrain is not consumed locally; instead it is mainly exported to various destinations across the world. Among some of the prominent buyers for the Bahraini oil are countries within the Middle East, the Far East and Africa. Considering the world craze towards a greener source of energy, the Bahrain government has invested several millions of U.S$ towards the construction of a new refinery that should see the country become a major leader in the field of green energy resources.

As much as the country already produces record high volumes of oil barrels per day, elaborate plans are underway to drill more wells with the figure of new wells already established at 104. The wells are of different types ranging from directional wells, horizontal and vertical wells and even the re-entry wells. Being a government initiated company, the Bahrain Petroleum Company has taken lots of cooperate responsibility as well as social obligations towards shaping the future of the country. As a result, the company donates towards several humanitarian organizations as well as education funds with the objective of sending brighter students for studies in universities across the world.
