Control Room Operator

When you start looking for jobs as a control room operator, you may also see them advertised under the initials CRO for short. A control room operator has a responsible job that will not be suitable to those new to the oil industry. You will often see in advertised job positions that a request to recruit control room operators comes with a desire to see a minimum length of relevant service before applying. This could be as much as five years or sometimes even more, so it is clear that you need to develop a career in the oil industry before you think about applying for this role.

You may also find you have to have a certain number of professional qualifications. These could include professional licences to perform certain tasks as well. If you are thinking of applying for a job as a control room operator make sure you obtain any licences or training or qualifications you would need before being considered for the position.

The role actually covers quite a lot of activities, including being able to liaise with more senioir staff in the same environment. Another key part of this job entails having to check and report back with gas data on a regular basis. As such you should be efficient and able to think for yourself, as you would need to notify the right people to get the problem solved if one should crop up. Leaving it or not seeing the problem at all could lead to huge consequences.

You may also find yourself responsible for Permit to Work forms. These have to be issued in order for specific people to perform specific jobs on the oil rig. If they weren't issued in a timely manner then necessary work would not be able to be carried out. If you are not comfortable with performing lots of different duties on a daily basis and having your talents and skills stretched in this way, then this probably isn't ideal for you.

If you thrive in an environment that requires you to take on lots of responsible tasks however, you will love being a control room operator in the oil industry.
