Driller

Being a driller sounds like an easy job. But as with many positions available on an oil rig off shore, there is a lot more to it than you may at first think.

For example you will need to have some supervisory skills as well, since you will be in charge of the rig crew on the oil rig. You will have someone above you in seniority as well - this person is called the rig manager. But you should be able to identify what tasks need doing and direct the rig crew accordingly. This is not the kind of job for someone who prefers to be told what to do all the time. Being a driller requires initiative.

A driller will also have a lot of relevant experience prior to starting work in this position. You may for example have been a member of a rig crew yourself. In any event you will be familiar with the tasks and challenges of working on an oil rig, and as such you can start the role of a driller with more confidence than a total newbie would have.

As you might imagine this is a very physical job and requires you to be physically fit for this purpose. There is a lot of bending, lifting and carrying to do, as well as the fact that the shifts can be quite long. You will be paid well for the role however, and if you already work on an oil rig you will be familiar with the kinds of tasks a driller would do.

As you can see, the role of a driller involves many different tasks and as such it is a very challenging role to take on. Quite often you will be managing other people and overseeing training requirements as well as actually taking part in drilling activities. So you need to be able to think on your feet and know what needs doing and when, as well as staying on top of the records and paperwork that are required. And the good news is that in return for all this you will be paid a good salary to be on an off shore oil rig.

Think of it a President esseentially taking your business, any business! King Bush, now Emperor Obama. Lose your freedoms, if due process of law isn't followed. An energy flu day to wake people up, slow it down. Oil drillers, all of us depend on oil now. Not $10 a gallon gas, energy supply flu day. Green is good, not by gov. fiat.
