When people hear the name Mitsubishi, most think about the Japanese automaker. However Mitsubishi is actually a vast group of businesses that share the same name, trademark and the legacy. They share a loose entity but operate as separate businesses, however they share some of the same things like strategy, and cross holdings. The purpose of the collaboration is to share ideas , marketing, and other business venture ideas.

The Mitsubishi Company has been around since the mid 1800's as a shipping firm In the 1880's Mitsubishi began coal mining acquiring a mine on Hashima Island. This coal was later used to fuel the steamship fleet for the shipping company. By the 20 century the fleet business increased and later branched into 3 other entities. Mitsubishi Bank, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The heavy Industries division included Mitsubishi Motors, aerospace, shipbuilding, and nuclear energy.

In the 1950's and 1960's the demand for energy increased rapidly, and Mitsubishi turned its interest to that area,. Mitsubishi formed new companies that dealt directly with the energy. Mitsubishi Liquefied Petroleum, Mitsubishi Atomic Power Industries, Mitsubishi Petroleum Development, and Mitsubishi Petrochemical all formed.

In modern time Mitsubishi has advanced and emphasized its interest in aviation, space development, data communications, computers, and ocean development. They are also involved in consumer goods and services.

Over the 150 plus years Mitsubishi has grown into a mega company that is involved in many industries. They are involved in both the paper and plastic industry, electric appliances, steel, and the camera industry. Insurance and financial business, as well as glass, oil seafood and even the beer industry. It would be hard pressed to find an industry in Japan that Mitsubishi is not involved in, at least at some level.

Mitsubishi has come a long way since is conception as a shipping company. The name is self can be translated to mean "3 diamonds" hence the log of the three diamonds touching ends. Mitsubishi has even partnered with American automaker Chrysler, where they manufactured cars, under the Chrysler name. There arte other consumer goods manufactured my Mitsubishi but marketed under a different name. They are found in practically every consumer good, food, textile , even the financial and insurance industry
