Night Baker

The setting of the sun means the ending of the day, but that depends on you as a person. For most people, it's a chance to rest, but for others, its business as usual. One job that always demands continuity even after sunset is that of cooking. A chef is forced to stay up in the night doing what he knows best and that is keeping the stomach happy. Night baking is very common, not only in cafes and pastry shops but also in nightshift jobs where work goes on 24 hours.

The offshore job of oil mining is one that needs someone in charge of catering. All the roughnecks and roustabouts need to eat, and since some of them proceed with work late into the night, it's the job of the chef to make sure they don't go hungry while they are at it. A night baker prepares all the delicious pastries for the workers so that when they wake, they will find some appetizing morning snacks awaiting them as they prepare for another day of hard work. One would be forgiven for thinking that the only people needed in an oil rig are the engineers and those who can operate machinery. The catering crew is indispensable too as it makes sure the rig is as homey as possible. The persons do the cleaning and washing, and make sure that there is always food available when it comes the meal times. There is only so much two chef hands can do. But with some help, much more can be achieved. A second set of hands from a night baker would be of the essence.

The responsibilities of a night baker are pretty much understood. The kitchen is their domain and with the right set of ingredients they can transform a simple meal into a feast. Since the days don't leave so much to do as there are so many other commitments, the night presents some ample undisturbed time where the baking can take place without rush.

The perils for this job description are much less, in contrast to the many others that are apparent with the electricians and the engineers. Perhaps the risk of fire is the greatest one, but that is not so often recorded, so it's generally considered safe. A night baker in an oil rig fetches much more than one who works in a restaurant onshore. The difference arises in the working conditions and demands.
