North American Palladium
The North American Palladium is a mining company whose home office is in Toronto Canada. This company is involved in the exploration of not only Palladium but also, other metals such as, gold, nickel, copper, and platitinum. The company formed in 1968 and was known as Madeline Mines ltd. it later changed its name in 199e to the current name.
The company owns the a mine in the Thunder Bay Ontario area where a majority of the Palladium comes from . The mine consists of an underground mine, a pit mine, a processing plant, and the original mill. The mine produces up to 15000 tons of palladium a day. .The majority of its products are sold to the automotive industry. Which means when car sales slump, the demand for the metals drop.
Not only does the North American Palladium do underground mining they also are involved in pit mining. They began open pit mining in 1993 at the Roby Zone. In 2004 underground mining began in that location. This was in order to access the higher quality metals that were much deeper then the pit. Approximately 660 meters below the surface
