There are many different oil and gas companies that offer jobs for those working offshore. However, there are five main types of companies and there are as following: operating companies, drilling companies, major contractors, FPSO operators, and service companies. Each of these different types of companies has their own specialization. Therefore, depending on what a person has done in the past will determine what type of gas and oil Company they can work for in the future.

Operating companies are companies that hold all the production and exploration licenses for oil and gas finds. They also operate the production facilities that help in this endeavor. Some of these companies are household names and are known internationally throughout the world.

Drilling companies are those companies that are contracted to undertake all the work required to drill for the gas and oil. These companies generally operate and maintain their own mobile drilling rigs, and they go to wherever and whenever they are contracted to. These drilling companies often work internationally as well, so if a person decides to work in this type of oil or gas company then they also get the side benefit of working and exploring the entire world.

Major contracting companies are what provide the integrated operation and maintenance services to the operating companies. These companies often are employed with the regular offshore personal, and they maintain and keep everything in proper working order.

FPSO operation companies are the companies that do the storage. These companies operate and main all the needed floating production storage equipment and offloading units. While they have the habit of looking just like regular ships, they are really designed to remain in one place for a long period of time. The time ranges from a few months to years and during this time period they are packed with all the equipment necessary for processing oil or gas.

Service companies in the oil and gas industries are companies that are seen as the go-in-betweens. They provide a specialized assistance to both the operating and drilling companies, and they widely vary in their function. Some of the job functions they employ are hiring well service firms, cementing companies, well testing specialist, seismic firms, divers, caterers, and mud drilling suppliers. These companies help the big and not-so big oil and gas companies find contractors that can do jobs that are not their main focus. In conclusion, if a person wants to work in the oil and gas industries, they will get employment. Each type of company different in their function but they all work together in one purpose - to find oil and gas.
