Freelancer contractors- Working in these individuals or company will mostly be on pure casual basis, all you need to do is approach the contractor himself and maybe if there is a project he's working on he will definitely take you on board, wages may not be that attractive but at least, income is close to certain.

Construction jobs do have different hierarchy, which will require different skill from the others, apply to what you are good, if you have skills to be a construction foreman, do just that, if you have no skill you can send an open application and the company will find where you can fit.
