Steel Frame Houses

People have used steel for construction for centuries. They use steel for roofing, decorating, framing etc., as steel is a durable material than many metals and materials. Huts and lodges made with steel frame are a common scene in industrial sites and storage places. Even so, steel frame houses have not been common until recent times. While some may find advantages of having steel frame houses, some may have their own reasons why they don’t like living in steel frame houses.

People who prefer living in steel frame houses state that durability of this type of homes is one reason of their choice. When you experience how high the expenditure is to spend on repairs of wooden frame houses, it is certain that steel frame houses are much cheaper than any of them. Wood frame homes decay fast. You have to repair them more often and the costs of repairs these days are sky high. If you need to conserve money spent on repairs, steel frame houses are an ideal choice.

Insects such as bugs and termites cause decay of houses made with wooden frames. They also can cause damages to steel frame houses. The difference is these bugs rarely make nests on steel frames like they do with wooden frame houses. Whenever they spread in and on wooden frames, it is a very difficult task to eliminate the pests. Although they can be seen on steel frames as well, they do not take permanent residency on them due to many reasons. Eliminating them is also easy in steel frame houses.

In addition, steel frame houses can bear extremely harsh weather conditions and face natural disasters. People living in hurricane, earthquake, flood, prone areas, use steel frame to build their houses on. On the other hand, building steel frame houses is not easy. One barrier is the cost, as steel is very expensive at present. Another is the duration. The duration to built steel frame houses is rather longer than the wooden frame houses. You have to use screws to fix parts of steel frame whereas you use nails to fix the wooden frames. Fixing screws takes up much time and further more screws are expensive.

Another problem with steel frame houses is insulation. Unlike wood, which is a natural insulator, steel homes require a high degree of insulation that also is an additional expenditure adding up to the total construction cost. You have to consider safe methods of insulation when building a steel frame house or it would not be the cozy place that you thought it would be.
