Helix Wind Turbine

The helix wind turbine is a special design which is said to trap more air than the standard type of windmill. It looks essentially like a helix, or if you are unfamiliar with the shape that that word illustrates, this is like a DNA strand that you might have studied in high school. It has two and sometimes three large wings all stretched around in a tightly wound helix formation. The helix wind turbine is said to be more efficient than the standard pinwheel shape, but in practice this is not actually true. This does not mean it is less efficient though. They happen to have about equal levels of efficiency and this is a good thing considering that this is a fairly new device and people want something that looks modern. Unfortunately this is the main buying tactic behind this, or the main selling tactic, whichever phrase is more suitable. The helix wind turbine is no more efficient than the standard pinwheel model, it just looks more modern and this is what causes people to want to buy it. Whether this is merely a sleeker better looking alternative to the slowly unpopular standard turbine or whether it is a scummy business practice that is capitalizing on the success of an already established design is up for debate but the fact is, it is here now and it is here to stay. The helix wind turbine can actually spruce up an older looking building pretty well, and for anyone wealthy enough to be able to afford a network of them, they actually will become ust a bit more efficient, because the pockets of air will be slung at fast speeds from one to the other in a field of them until they all continue making each other go faster and faster, and the pin wheel does not have this option.

The pin wheel could be adjusted to reflect an idea similar to this, but it would look clumsy and would only work if the wind was going in a certain direction. This is the other slight advantage to the helix design is that it can get started no matter what direction the wind is coming from and this does not work for the standard pinwheel design. To get those working in the exact way you’d want to, the wind has to be lowing directly on them. They generally do not have any problems after that, but it must be admitted that the helix design is a little bit better at self starting than what is provided by the standard design.
