Horizontal Wind Turbine
If your vertical wind turbine, you seem to notice, is for some reason not getting the air that it should, or you know that wind currents in your area happen to come from the floor upwards, you might find it necessary to try to replace your vertical wind turbine with a horizontal wind turbine. It may look silly at first. If you think it looks silly you probably wouldn’t be far off. The turbines do look pretty silly sitting there like that. They look like what a vertical wind turbine would look like if it had fallen over, but the horizontal wind turbine has a specific purpose and that is to harness wind that is coming more from the ground. In a lot of areas, wind will travel very close to the ground when it is blowing but will not really reach the tops of the trees by any means. This is a natural occurrence, perfectly natural, but not something that you would normally think you could take advantage of. Previously if people lived in this type of area they would simply move to another area or they would just shrug their shoulders and decide that it would be impossible to build a turbine there and they would give up on their dreams. This is because many people have never actually seen a horizontal wind turbine. It is not really that much harder to build than a vertical or standard wind turbine, it is just that it is not commonly seen around because few people decide to take advantage of ground wind. This does not mean that it is less effective and it does not confirm any sort of stereotype associated with these types of turbines.
And additional design feature that may help you in your construction of a horizontal wind turbine is the fact that it can be set to rotate on an axis so if there is wind coming from one area and not another, you can set it to spin all around and capture the wind energy from all around that day. This is admittedly less efficient than just going with one side, but if it needs to be done it can be done and there can be days where this might be the best course of action. If wind decides to change course one day it can also be helpful because you can pretty much just turn the thing around and then jam a gear in it so that it is fixed in the one position and is only absorbing energy from the one position. This way if wind is not flowing in the direction it is normally set in you do not have to go without energy for a day.
