Large Wind Turbines
Large wind turbines are large. That may seem redundant. That would be true. It is an awfully redundant statement. But it is also true. These wind turbines are enormous and they are meant to power entire cities. Of course one of these large wind turbines will not be enough to power an entire city, but this is why we have wind farms. A wind farm is essentially a large conglomeration of these large wind turbines all collected in one place in order to get the most wind possible in the smallest area. Because these are all so close to the power source they are trying to charge, it gets charged faster, and this source connects to the rest of the city where it is able to provide the rest of the city with the energy necessary in order to get all of their things done. It may not seem like wind energy does much or that these large wind turbines are very useful, but consider this. A wind farm doesn’t need more than a thousand of these. And wind farms can vary in size greatly. Let’s say your wind farm has one thousand wind mills and your city had 500,000 houses. This means that one of those large wind turbines has enough power to power 50,000 houses. That is a lot of power for one turbine to generate, and when looked at on those terms, you must admit that these turbines are actually fairly powerful. One other way to look at it is using different statistics, but no matter which way you slice it, these turbines are largely efficient and have a lot of power, more than necessary to power a single household for sure. And they go so fast too.
Unfortunately these are very costly. It costs around 5 billion dollars for a decently sized energy farm to be developed and most people don’t have that kind of money to just toss away, especially when coal companies can charge only 70 dollars for two thousand pounds of coal. This is a lot of coal for a little bit of money and will get these companies thousands upon thousands of dollars on profits. It is much easier right now for companies to rely on coal especially because they know if they do decide to invest 5 billion dollars, they will not receive the returns on it for a while to come. Their grand kids that inherit the company might be the ones reaping the profits and some people just aren’t that future thinking. This is why so few wind farms actually exist.
