Wind Energy Sources

Many people confuse wind energy turbines and windmills. There is a big difference between the two, and once one realizes just the way a windmill works, they might think that a wind energy turbine might be an even less complicated device in the long run. The fact is that only one of these can actually be seen as one of the wind energy sources out there in our world today. This is because the windmill is a device that does put the energy of the wind to use, but it does so for a specific purpose. There are gears in the windmill which all go to run a sophisticated set of gears and machinery which cause the mill to continue doing its business of grinding grain or whatever it is this particular mill is designed to do, and this is all powered by the wind. The device will not set in motion until the wind pushes the pinwheels on the device on the outside to do so. This however does not actually harness the energy of the wind. It uses it for one specific purpose and the purposes are not interchangeable. It also does not store any electricity, and in fact has little to nothing to do with electricity at all. So while the windmill may seem like it is a source of wind energy it cannot really be put on a list with other wind energy sources because it simply isn’t. The reason that the modern windmills, called wind energy turbines are seen as many types of wind energy sources are because the wind hitting the fins or wheels or whatever you want to call it of the blades of the device cause them to turn This action causes kinetic energy to be expelled. This is a physical energy that is seen in the environment. Anyone that has knowledge of physics knows what kinetic energy is and how it causes turbines to work.

However this kinetic energy that would normally just be lost in the atmosphere is immediately harnessed in the form of electricity. This electricity can be directly piped to a location and used there as the wheel is turning, or it can be housed in giant batteries which are activated remotely when someone chooses to turn an electronic device on or to use their electricity in some fashion. This is how these types of turbines are seen as sources of wind energy and not just things that utilize wind energy. See, windmills utilize the winds energy to complete a task, but what makes turbine so great is that they actually store it to be used later for many purposes.
