Wind Energy Turbines
Because of recent developments in the coal market it has recently become clear that we are running out of coal. To combat this and to generally make the world safer from airborne toxins cause by fossil fuels, things like wind energy turbines as well as hydroelectric dams have been built. These devices capture the kinetic energy supplied to them by the wind and by the water and store that power to be used later in the form of electricity. Though we do not have them all over devices such as wind energy turbines combined with other sources make up to 60% of our world’s electricity today while coal takes on the other 40%. There is however, one main problem with hydroelectric dams and wind energy turbines. And this is that they are not located everywhere. There are only so many major water sources we can afford to create dams around and there are only so many places where the wind is strong enough and consistent enough to build energy turbines there in order to harness the electrical power of the wind. Therefore ewe have these devices that are frankly, just not as efficient as coal, and that are only put in areas with high wind currents or high water.
So if in the future coal were to become an energy source that we were no longer able to use due to high cost or unavailability or what have you, we would have to rely on these devices, and when you have a device that only works in certain areas or that you can’t use all the time for other reasons, whatever percent of the population that doesn’t have a wind energy plant near them or a surging waterfall is all out of luck. This is both unfair and un economical in cases relating to these areas because these are areas we still need to support. They are still a part of the world after all and it is not fair that just because the place they are living in generally doesn’t get wind, that they don’t get electricity. We need to come up with a solution to this. But as of now there is little we can do. Some would argue that the wind turbines are exceptionally efficient. In some sense they might be right too, but this would only be under certain circumstances, and these are certain circumstances which every area that needs this energy don’t necessarily conform to all the time. This is unacceptable for the future, but acceptable for right now.
