Wind Power Station
Nowadays, a wind power station is usually associated with the great opportunity which we are given by the nature- to use energy without emitting poisonous gasses. But it is not only about that- the power stations are just a proof that if the humans want to solve a problem and want to keep the environment, they can do it no matter how difficult it seems.
Of course, it should not be thought that the wind power stations will solve all problems and will make the greenhouse effect cease. That is impossible just because generating electricity is not the only thing which we need. And even if it was, producing all the electricity needed by using nothing but the wind power is just not possible.
However, what many people are likely to find interesting is learn more about the way a wind power station works. Perhaps, most of the people know that a station consists of thousands of wind turbines, each of which is producing electricity thanks to the wind power. It is logical that the stations are located in specific regions- the windiest ones. Also, it is not difficult to come up with the idea that the biggest a wind station is, the more electricity it will generate. Amazingly, there are stations which produce enough electricity for a whole town (25.000 households or around 100.000 people).
A fact which many people certainly do not know is that all wind turbines within a station are interconnected to a system which consists of transformers and distribution canals. Usually, there is one substation but they could be two or even more, depending on the size of the station. After all, there is a huge difference between a station with 5.000 turbines and one with 50.000 turbines!
And having started mentioning interesting information and facts about the turbines makes it essential to give information about some of the biggest stations in the world. Undoubtedly, the first one which deserves some attention is the Californian wind power station. Its surface is 700 square kilometers which makes it truly impressive. Unfortunately, Europe cannot pride on such spectacular “farms” for wind turbines but there is still quite a significant number in countries such as Holland, Scotland, Sweden and Russia. And having mentioned the Netherlands, you have probably heard about the huge project about building the biggest wind farm in Europe. Everything seems to show that the wind energy and power will become more and more used.
