Wind Turbine Blade Design

The wind turbine blade design is the second most important aspect to building any wind turbine, and if placement of the turbine is taken out of account, then it is the single most important aspect. This is because this will determine just how susceptible the wind is to getting taken in by the blade. If the blades are too heavy and too broad then they will not turn fast enough and you will get a fraction of the energy you would normally get. However if the blades are too light and thin, they will spin fast but will not transfer enough kinetic energy to the base of the thing or the battery which holds all the energy it collects. Most of the designs out there today at least for the bigger turbines (the ones used by actual energy companies and not the ones put together in people’s backyards) favor a lighter design with thinner blades that thin out even more and more as they get to the tip until it ends in a very noticeable point. It ends in a point because though the wind will not hit a point, when it hits the center of the turbine the wind will cause it to move faster and the fact that the tips are pointy will cause the turbine to continue its motion with little resistance.

This is an important aspect of a turbine. Getting it to move is just as important as getting it to stay moving because this way even with just a few minutes of wind, momentum can cause you to get a few hours of power. This can be greatly beneficial and not even just in the long run. The benefits will start to show themselves almost immediately. You will save power for weeks and be able to disperse it at your will depending on if you have things plugged into it or if you are using battery power and there is also plenty you will be able to do with it in the way of sending out power to other devices and then recollecting that power in order to disperse it once more. The wind turbine blade design could not be more important to the design of a wind turbine than it already is because it is the most important aspect of the device itself.
